What Is Sunscreen and Why Do You Need It?

Are you using sunscreen in your daytime skincare routine? If not, don’t delay and start applying it to your skin today! This is one of the most essential steps you need to take for your skin if you want it to look healthy and youthful.

What Is Sunscreen?
Sunscreen generally comes in lotions or creams and contains broad-spectrum sun protection. With a sun protection factor (SPF) that can range from SPF 15 to SPF 100, these protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. When you protect your skin from these harmful rays, you minimize the damages to your skin. Many of these damages you won’t see immediately…they will reveal themselves years later. That’s why you must start wearing it now, every day during daylight hours, even if you’re not actively out in the sun!

What Are the Benefits to Using Sunscreen?
Most people forget that the skin is an organ itself, and it needs to be healthy to keep germs out of your body while helping regulate your body temperature. Without sunscreen, you’ll be vulnerable to many problems. Here’s how it can benefit you by using it daily.

Reduces the Visible Signs of Aging
If you don’t want to look old, sunscreen is an essential step. Without sunscreen, your collagen and connective tissues become damaged. This means you lose elasticity in your skin and start to reveal wrinkles.

Minimize Sunspots
When you don’t protect your skin with SPF, you may find yourself with sunspots. These can age you fast, covering your skin with little dots, also known as age spots, of hyperpigmentation.

Protection
With too much exposure to UV rays through the sun, you could wind up with a painful sunburn. Every time you expose your skin to the sun without protection, it leads to damage. And when you get sunburns, you raise your risk for developing skin cancer.

Wearing sunscreen daily will greatly reduce your risk for skin cancer. You should use SPF 15 at minimum, though higher SPF is generally recommended. Another thing sunscreen protects your skin from is broken blood vessels, which can leave you with a bruised appearance.

How to Choose the Right Sunscreen?
Sunscreens come in chemical or mineral formulas. You can choose the one that fits your needs best by thinking of your daily activities. If you are going to work in an office, you still need sunscreen. Think of the driving you do to get there – you are exposing your skin to those harmful rays every moment of your commute!

Daily sunscreen should be applied right after your moisturizer but before you add your makeup. An SPF of 30 is ideal for this kind of exposure, however, if you’re planning to go for a run outdoors or swim at the pool or beach, you should go with SPF 60 or higher.

At Whole Beauty Skincare, you’ll find an array of sunscreens for your face and body to protect every inch of your skin from those damaging sun rays. In this way, you can be you and be beautiful with protection that keeps your skin healthy!
